44 drivers arrested for drunk driving in WC traffic blitz

Western Cape provincial traffic chief, Kenny Africa gives traffic updates of what he described as a very hectic weekend in the Western Cape.

According to Africa, traffic officers stopped a Toyota Fortuner on the N2 near Somerset West and the driver fled the scene on foot. Eighty-seven bags of abalone was confiscated, weighing 839 kg's and worth about R5 million.

Two officers who were travelling on the N1 from Paarl to Cape Town helped remove a naked man who brought traffic to a stand still, off the road.

Forty-four motorists were arrested this weekend for driving under the influence of alcohol, says Africa. One motorists had the highest reading of 1.94 mg/1000ml, which was 8 times over the legal limit.
