ANC may give into AIC demands over Matatiele

A report in Tuesday's Business Day confirms that Cabinet has now agreed to investigate re-demarcating the provincial boundaries between KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape around the town of Matatiele.

This seems to confirm that the African National Congress (ANC) has decided to give in to the demand of the African Independence Congress that unless Matatiele is moved back into KZN it could remove the ANC from power in Ekurhuleni.

Mandla Galo, African Independent Congress (AIC) President says the ANC is giving them what is desired by the people of Matatiele. He says when they entered into a coalition with the ANC, it was demanded that Matatiele be re-demarcated to KZN by the people.

If you recall, we demanded four things from the ANC, such as the reconstruction and tarring of all provincial roads in rural provinces such as the Eastern Cape and Mpumalanga, the construction of an agricultural college in Matatiele, the construction of the road between South Africa and Lesotho.

Galo says he believes if they didn't have the balance of power, the ANC may not have agreed to their list of demands. Galo adds that they refused to resort to protests but opted for the legal route, where they took the ruling party to the Constitutional Court in 2006 in attempt to resolve the matter.

Galo says his party represents the poorest of the poor and will continue serving the interests of their voters.
