Suspect arrested in connection with Uber acid attack

A suspect has been arrested in connection to a recent acid attack faced by one of Uber South Africa's drivers, reports EWN's Gia Nicolaides.

Uber SA has been accused of not valuing the safety of its drivers, after Kgomotso Tiro was a victim of an acid attack earlier this month.

It's understood the passenger threw a chemical substance onto the driver when they reached the drop-off point.

Uber SA has reiterated that, while it tries to protect its employees, crime-related incidents need to be dealt with by authorities.

The ride-hailing app says it has put security measures in place to ensure support and safety of driver and customers.

The ultimate message that came out is that Uber is a service provider, they are not the, policy-makers or regulators.

The suspect is due to appear in court on Thursday and Uber has directed the media to police for questions related to the case.
