BLSA pledges to invest in communities, root out corruption

Business Leadership South Africa (BLSA) CEO Bonang Mohale says they have made a pledge to invest in communities and to fight corruption.

Speaking to CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies, Mohale says BLSA is concerned that 23 years into democracy, business in South Africa hasn't sufficiently transformed, especially at CEO level.

He says they are also concerned about the level of corruption in the country and about state capture.

Mohale says there two families benefiting, the Guptas and the Zuma family.

This is our country, this is our democracy. People have died and went to jail for it, so we are not to going to give our sovereignty to an Indian immigrant family and a president that is clearly corrupt.

Bonang Mohale, Business Leadership South Africa CEO

BLSA commits to:

  • Create jobs by growing the economy

  • Encourage and empower senior black leadership

  • Invest in South Africa in terms of the skills that are required for the 21st century

  • Invest in communities to avoid incidents like Marikana

  • Support small and medium enterprises

  • Condemn and root out corruption

We said to all our members [including KPMG and McKinsey], it is our job to comply with all laws. We said to them, corruption is eroding even our Constitution, it's threatening our sovereignty, undermining inclusive growth and development.

Bonang Mohale, Business Leadership South Africa CEO

We said to them even the perpetrators, whether private or public, should be brought to book.
