Fox News quits Sky UK

Rupert Murdoch's 21st Century Fox said the channel will no longer be broadcast on Sky UK because it was not commercially viable.

The channel says average daily viewing figures have dropped to about 2000 a day.

There is a suspicion that the decision may be related to Fox's takeover bid for Sky says UK corespondent Gavin Grey.

Lots of people smelling a bit of rat here, at the moment 21st Century Fox wants to buy the remainder of Sky. It has quite a large chunk but wants to buy the 61% stake it doesn't currently own and many people think this is a a bit of a play to effectively secure that deal.

Gavin Grey, UK correspondent

If 21st Century Fox were to completely own Sky it would give it a massive proportion of European media.
