Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari chaired his first cabinet meeting since returning from a three-month long medical leave.
Journalist Crystal Orderson, says Buhari told cabinet that Nigeria's economy continues to grow with higher oil prices, despite entering a second recession. Orderson adds that his presidency is entering into a crucial stage in his four-year presidency.

Sierra Leone government is considering imposing a state of emergency for relief and political reasons. A mudslide which happened earlier in August in Freetown, killing hundreds. Orderson says the state of emergency is to deal with the extent of damages incurred. She adds that the World Health Organisation has stepped in to offer aid.
There is also the risk of waterborne diseases, health officials are anxious about a possible outbreak of malaria.— Crystal Orderson, Africa correspondent
