Two trapped Harmony Gold miners still missing

Two trapped miners are still missing at Harmony Gold's Kusasalethu mine near Carletonville.

Harmony Gold spokesperson, Lauren Fourie, says the rescue team is working 24/7 to reach the area where they believe the miners are trapped.

A 1.8 magnitude seismic event took place on Friday causing a rock fall trapping five miners. Three bodies have since been recovered.

Our rescue team are certainly doing their best but we believe we are near to where the miners are trapped. The space is quite confined, we are removing a lot of rock and debris... the area is quite sensitive after last Friday's event...

We are trying to reach it as soon as possible but we still have to take precautions.

Fourie says they have been in contact with the families of the missing miners and they are providing them with the necessary support during these trying times.
