"Guptas received cabinet minister-style VIP treatment for 2010 World Cup"

It has been revealed that the incident at the Waterkloof Air force Base was not the first time the Gupta family abused state resources like VIP police protection.

It was found that the Guptas and their associates were treated like cabinet ministers by the police during the 2010 World Cup, says investigative journalist, Pieter-Louis Myburgh.

Myburgh says the Guptas and their friends from India received police protection for the entire duration of the World Cup. They were travelling with them from the Saxonwold guest house, Soccer City and other locations around Johannesburg.

It is currently not clear who gave the official authorisation for the Guptas to receive VIP treatment by the Police Protection Unit, he adds.

There is a worrying trend of an almost deafening silence from government.

Pieter-Louis Myburgh, Investigative journalist

A further deeper approach hopefully will emerge when the commission of inquiry into state capture is hopefully instituted.
