Cops investigate after Sandton CEO shot dead in suspected hit

Police are investigating a case of murder after a 41-year-old entrepreneur was shot dead in Sandton on Thursday night.

Basis Points Capital CEO Vusi Mhlanzi was shot just after 6:30 pm on the corner of Grayston and Katherine streets.

No arrests have been made, reports EWN's Mandy Wiener.

Sources say the incident was a targeted hit, however police say the motive is not yet known.

Eyewitnesses have also said that Mhlanzi had recently received death threats.

Wiener spoke to several sources and eyewitnesses who shared their version of events.

Mhlanzi was driving his convertible Mercedes Benz from his Sandton office to his home in Sandown estate when two gunmen in a silver Audi pulled up next to him.

He pulled up at the corner of Grayston and Katherine. A silver vehicle then pulled up along side him.

Eyewitnesses say that there were two men in the other car. One rolled down the window, pointed a firearm at Mhlanzi and shot seven times.

It seems six bullets hit him. He put his foot on the accelerator, went over the intersection and his Mercedes-Benz caught alight.

Eyewitnesses rushed to pull him from the car, but he died on the scene.
