Credibility of Kenya's electoral commission questioned after polls annulled

The Supreme Court in Kenya has nullified the result of the August 8 presidential election won by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

On Friday, the court rules that the electoral board committed “irregularities and illegalities” during last month’s presidential vote.

Four out of six judges said that the vote had harmed the integrity of the election.

The court has annulled the outcome and ordered fresh elections within 60 days.

This is the first ever presidential election to be nullified in Kenya.

Meanwhile, Kenyatta says he personally disagrees with the judgment but will respect it.

Analyst and Daily Maverick's Africa corespondent, Peter Fabricius says the credibility of the electoral commission has been called into question.
