Infidelity claims won't impede Ramaphosa's presidential bid - Brown

Allegations of infidelity as well as a confession on an extramarital affair by Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa will not impede his presidential race, political analyst Karima Brown says.

He was unsuccessful on Saturday night in his attempt to stop the _Sunday Independent _from publishing an article, which claimed he had affairs with eight women.

Following the article, he admitted to having an affair but said he told his wife eight years ago and ended the relationship.

Brown says various leaders have rallied around him, with trade union Cosatu cementing it's backing, as well as a statement of support from the African National Congress in the Northern Cape.

There has been a long list of ANC leaders, no less than Jacob Zuma who recovered from a rape trial, to not only become president of the ANC but also of the country.

Karima Brown, political analyst

Many leaders are rallying around him, with the Northern Cape ANC provincial leadership sending out a statement, Cosatu reaffirming its support, [the SACP's] Solly Mapaila saying it is a campaign against the deputy president.

She however says the interdict against the Sunday Independent has created an expectation.

The problem was that he interdicted. The advise he got created almost an expectation and so the Sunday Independent is now going to be serialising what they call his relationships, now there is expectation and he has to respond all the time.
