A settlement has been reached after an East Rand restaurant made headlines for refusing to allow same-sex couples into its premises on Thursdays for 'date night'.
Earlier this year Two Eyewitness News (EWN) reporters went undercover, posed as a gay couple and booked a table at the restaurant, but were prohibited from entering with the owners saying that the event was only for heterosexual couples.
The Commission for Gender Equality was called to investigate the matter after a lesbian couple approached the Equality Court.
EWN reporter Victor Magwedze says a settlement has been reached.
The settlement details how the owners will have to go for sensitivity training, the training will of course have to be on gender and the gay community.— Victor Magwedze, EWN reporter.
They will also have to post an apology on their Facebook page and stop date night in as far as it excludes gays.— Victor Magwedze, EWN reporter.
