ANC KZN sets up task teams to deal with political killings

The ANC in Kwazulu Natal made an announcement that it will be establishing two task teams to deal with political killings within the province. This is according to EWN reporter Ziyanda Ngcobo.

This comes after the death of former ANC Youth League secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa who died on Monday in hospital after he and two other councillors were shot two months ago.

Magaqa was a councillor at the Umzimkhulu Municipality at the time of his death.

The first one (task team) will be an internal investigation into the causes of the killings in the organisation. The second one will deal with the political work, where there will be engaging with ANC members within all structures which will include political education on the importance of unity.

The provincial secretary Super Zuma said although they can't rule out the fact that it could be other ANC councillors who may be behind the killings, they are quite reluctant to take responsibility because the Moerane commission is still investigating these murders.

Ngobo reports that Super Zuma spoke about exploring the possible 'sponsoring' of these killings, saying there is a pattern between how the councillors are murdered now and how they were murdered in the 80s and 90s.

He didn't say who is sponsoring, but all he could say is that there are similarities.

Ziyanda Ngcobo, EWN reporter

At this stage, they are not taking responsibility but they are acknowledging that there could be ANC councillors involved.

He said they will take harsh actions against those members if found guilty.
