Prolonged power cut causes chaos in central Joburg

Businesses and locals are contending with a major power outage after copper thieves made off with kilometres of cable at the weekend.

The area has been plunged into darkness and will only likely have power restored this coming weekend.

Inner City Gazette owner and editor Moses Moyo says his publication hasn’t been able to operate as a result.

For the past four days, we haven’t been able to work. Our servers are down and our systems are down. For the first time in eight years, we will not be able to go to print.

He says they will make claims against City Power and the City of Johannesburg once the issue is resolved.

The cellphone towers have also gone off in the area.
