[Listen] Through education we can reclaim black pride - Julius Malema

Commander In Chief of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Julius Malema has graduated with a BA Honours degree in Philosophy from the University of South Africa (Unisa).

Speaking to host, Azania Mosaka, Malema says it is important for people to set their own pace when chasing their dreams.

Malema says obtaining his first degree was a lot harder because of the amount of work it involves but mentions that his follow up degree was a lot less manageable.

Choosing to study philosophy was an effort to diversify his studies says Malema. He explains that politics and philosophy are inseparable.

I want to remain an activist and avoid being swallowed by academia.

Malema says he has considered doing a masters degrees and jokingly adds studying anything further than that would be pushing it.

The CiC says he had to make quite a few lifestyle changes when he made the decision to further his studies and mentions how his wife would wake him up at three in the morning so he can study. He adds that her support has been paramount.

Malema has often been ridiculed for his poor grade twelve results but adds that even with the insults about his woodwork marks, he didn't let those define him because he had no aspirations of being a carpenter and instead wanted to be an activist.

When I got to matric I was elected the president of Cosas and only returned home to write my final exams.

Malema goes on to say that many of South Africa's leaders were denied the opportunity to study and adds that those who come after them do not have an excuse to not study.

It is only through education that we'll be able to reclaim the black pride.
