City of Tshwane launches Hopeline to assist drug users

In an effort to assist those who struggle with substance abuse, Solly Msimanga, Executive Mayor of Tshwane has launched a 'Hopeline'. This is call centre works in conjunction with non-profit organisations (NPO) to provide help for those who look for it.

Spokesperson for the Executive Mayor of Tshwane, Samkelo Mgobozi says that Msimanga this intuitive was inspired to open this call centre after dealing with the drug scourge in the capital city.

The Hopeline is essentially a call centre that will allow for some of our specialists in the health sector in the particular drug space to assist people with the problems they are facing with regards to drugs.

Mgobozi says the Hopeline was launched in conjunction with the MMC of health and 23 NPOs have signed on to aid the operation.

When someone calls the Hopeline and describes their problem, they will be directed to the necessary NPO that can help them work out a solution. According to Mgobozi, the hope line will a be a touch point for those who need it.

Often these people are looking for help, but don't know who to approach, where to go or what kind of rehabilitation centres are close to them.
