Township tourism is now claiming its stake in AirBnB, offering local and international travellers a real South African experience.

AirBnB Property Manager at ETA Home, Christine de Silva says they have been working closely with township property owners to get on board AirBnB.

She says they started in Langa township with 15 women who are going strong in providing the service there, moved to Imizamo Yethu and the now they are developing women in Khayelitsha.

AirBnB is a bigger plartform that allows them to get a much wider reach.

Christine de Silva, AirBnB Property Manager at ETA Home

We are seeing a lot of international travellers come through the doors of these township ladies.

Christine de Silva, AirBnB Property Manager at ETA Home

I would really like to see is some of our local travellers coming to stay with these ladies because the experience is unlike anything.

Christine de Silva, AirBnB Property Manager at ETA Home

De Silva admits that there are still negative perceptions about township safety which makes a lot of people a bit skeptical about visiting these places.

It is quite difficult to pass through these perceptions and change people's minds about townships .... but the ladies looks after you so well. Safety is absolute key for them when they have anyone staying with them.
