Magaqa died while trying to expose corruption, mourners told

Former ANC Youth League (ANCYL) secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa has been remembered for his political sharpness.

ANC leaders have held a memorial service at Magaqa’s hometown in the Ibisi Village, south of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), reports Ziyanda Ngcobo.

The 35-year-old died last Monday, 4 September, two months after he was shot with at least a dozen bullets.

A former ANCYL secretary told mourners that Magaqa stood for anti-corruption and died while trying to expose corruption in the Umzimkhulu Municipality.

ANCYL secretary general Njabulo Nzuzo says the country has lost one of its finest politicians.

Everybody has described him as someone who was politically sharp, he loved the ANC and was loyal to it. He was also a solider of economic freedom in this life time.

People in attendance include Police Minister Fikile Mbalula and ANC provincial secretary Supra Zuma, members of South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) and Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu).

Mbalula and senior KZN ANC leaders met with Magaqa’s family privately before heading to the memorial service a few kilometres away.

Meanwhile, the ANC's regional leagues plan to appeal the court judgment which effectively disband ANC's provincial executive.
