Tom Moyane insists government blacklist KPMG

South African Revenue Service (Sars) commissioner Tom Moyane has launched a scathing attack on audit firm KPMG saying government must blacklist the firm. Monyane was speaking at a media briefing held on Monday.

Last week the auditing firm withdrew all its findings and recommendations around its report into the so-called Sars spy unit.

Gia Nicolaides, EWN reporter was at the media briefing.

She reports that Monyane in criticising the firm added that KPMG was under contractual obligation stating this particular report belongs to the revenue service.

Monyane said he was rather disappointed that KPMG released this statement on Friday.

Monyane also said they would institute legal action but also cease any work KPMG is currently performing and also ask the finance minister to stop KPMG doing any work for the state.

KPMG International says it's offered to repay Sars for the controversial spy unit report that it conducted and will also make a donation of R40 million to NGOs, an amount that's based on fees that the firm earned from Gupta related entities.

Nicolaides, reports that Monyane told the media they will also look at work dating back to ten years ago done by the firm, to see if there is more to recover from the auditing firm.

They are not saying that they are accepting it at this particular stage.
