KPMG called before Parliament to account for "unethical" behaviour

The audit firm needs to account after it withdrew its report into the so-called “rogue unit”.

SARS Commissioner Tom Moyane told journalists at a media briefing in Pretoria on Monday that the revenue service will be taking legal action against auditing firm KPMG.

Moyane says the firm acted unlawfully and illegally when it withdrew its report into the so-called “rogue unit”.

ANC Whip at Scopa, Mnyamezeli Booi says they have extended an invitation to KPMG to come and account before parliament for its "unethical" and "immoral" behavior.

KPMG plays a huge role in our lives to get institutions to account in the fight against corruption.

Mnyamezeli Booi, ANC Whip at Scopa

There have been concerns with regards to Booi's presence at the Sars media briefing, with the EFF accusing him of protecting Sars.

The EFF says an invitation has been extended to KPMG and if Scopa wanted answers surely they could've waited their turn when KPMG appears before Parliament.

However, Booi denies any of these accusations saying he was there to understand how the relationship between Sars and KPMG broke down.

If the perception is that I was there to protect Sars, it is neither here nor there.

Mnyamezeli Booi, ANC Whip at Scopa

KPMG has been involved with a lot of entities so it was shocking to hear that their own internal systems have broken down so I was there to know what is exactly going on.
