Trump slated for UN address

US President Donald Trump has been heavily criticised for his speech to the UN General Assembly on Tuesday.

He set his sights on Iran and Venezuela saying they are despotic regimes.

There is also a concern after he vowed to “totally destroy” North Korea if it threatened the United States or its allies.

Addressing the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, Trump took aim at Kim Jong-un, saying "Rocket Man is on a suicide mission for himself and for his regime."

Ray White, standing in for Stephen Grootes on The Midday report, spoke to Prof John Stremlau, Professor of International Relations at Wits University.

It is a very controversial statement and inappropriate, one in both language and in lack of coherence and the way in which he gave such a dark view of the world.

Prof John Stremlau, Professor of International Relations at Wits University

Trump has no answers, and I don't think that people take him all that seriously.

Prof John Stremlau, Professor of International Relations at Wits University

He says we should be worried about a possible war.

I would like to think that there are some fail safe guides that would override Donlad Trump's rhetoric...He has used this language on North Korea repeatedly in recent months and to what end?
