Local prof uplifts rural women through financial literacy

Professor Linda De Vries is trying to empower rural women by teaching them the skills they need to be successful entrepreneurs.

De Vries, who is from the School of Business and Finance at the University of the Western Cape (UWC), spends her free time equipping disadvantaged women with the tools they need to do business.

De Vries, a self-professed "dreamcatcher", explains that she is committed to helping vulnerable groups translate their ideas into viable businesses.

She says that entrepreneurship is key to creating economic opportunities, and it is necessary in the fight against poverty and unemployment.

The economy needs entrepreneurs.
