CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies asked Mayco Member for Informal Settlements Xanthea Limberg why the City is still providing those building swimming pools with the permission to fill them up, while private homes may not do so.
According to Limberg, they are in a process of reviewing the bylaws relating to new construction and development. But, she says, the Level 5B water restriction applies to everyone.
The filling of swimming pools with potable water is not allowed and that particular restriction applies across the board.

Limberg says the South African Pools and Spa Institute needs to look at new ways in which to do business and how to use potable water for the industry.
She says there are engaging with the industry on how they can introduce new measures to keep the industry operational in a period where pool installations are reduced due to water shortages.
