A 29-page report by Eskom’s own legal team has revealed that the utility deliberately ignored advice at least four times since 2015, not to go ahead with the McKinsey contract or pay Gupta-linked Trillian.
The report seen by Eyewitness News was handed to Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown earlier in September and details Eskom’s relationship with the consultancy firm.
It’s been reported that despite US firm Oliver Wyman having red flagged transactions with Trillian, Eskom lied by claiming that everything was above board.
EWN reporter Gia Nicolaides has more on the story.
What they failed to mention, and what this report contains, is that there were warnings from their own internal legal team, external lawyers PFMA specialists and a number of other firms saying don't go ahead with this Mckinsey contract - and you should not be paying Trillian directly because they are not a sub-contractor.— Gia Nicolaides, EWN reporter
It wasn't just one payment to Trillian. There were four separate payments to Trillian and there were key players involved who really pushed to make sure Trillian was paid.— Gia Nicolaides, EWN reporter
The report also shows the utility is still misleading the public about its dealings with the Guptas in an effort to protect top management implicated in the Trillian scandal, says Nicolaides
