Steenkamp family wants apology over 'distasteful' Oscar Pistorius biopic

The family of Reeva Steenkamp wants Lifetime Films to apologise and issue a retraction on reports claiming they have links to the Oscar Pistorius movie.

Steenkamp family says they only found out about the production of the controversial 'biographical' film on Monday.

US-based Lifetime Films released the trailer for their upcoming film about the murder of Steenkamp at the hands of the former Olympian.

The movie apparently tells the story of Pistorius, Steenkamp, their relationship, the events of Valentine's Day 2013 and the athlete's trial.

Family spokesperson Kim Martin says Reeva's father learned about the film on social media, after the release of the trailer.

My uncle Barry Steenkamp found out about it on Facebook yesterday.

Martin says the family has been left shocked and deeply hurt by the distasteful film, which they were not consulted about.

Meanwhile, Oscar Pistorius' brother, Carl Pistorius, says his family will consider taking legal action over the film.
