IRBA to fast track probe into KPMG's Gupta firm audit

The Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors (IRBA) appeared before Parliament's finance committee on Tuesday.

EWN reporter Rahima Essop was in Parliament.

The regulator will fast-track a probe into KPMG's audit of Gupta-owned company Linkway Trading, allegedly involved in using public Free State funds to pay for Gupta wedding.

The regulator regards this as a high-profile matter and chief executive Bernard Agulhas said it will be fast-tracked.

The scope of the investigation is likely to broaden to include KPMG's handling of the so-called Sars rogue unit, says Essop.

But the caveat here is the IRBA does not have the mandate to investigate a forensic report. What it can do is probe the conduct of the auditor who signed off on that report.
