IRBA to fast track probe into KPMG's Gupta firm audit

The Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors (IRBA) appeared before Parliament's finance committee on Tuesday.

The regulator will fast-track a probe into KPMG's audit of Gupta-owned company Linkway Trading, allegedly involved in using public Free State funds to pay for Gupta wedding.

The regulator regards this as a high-profile matter and chief executive Bernard Agulhas said it will be fast-tracked.

The scope of the investigation is likely to broaden to include KPMG's handling of the so-called Sars rogue unit, says Essop.

But the caveat here is the IRBA does not have the mandate to investigate a forensic report. What it can do is probe the conduct of the auditor who signed off on that report.
