De Lille, Smith spat could threaten public confidence in DA, warns Tony Leon

Former DA leader Tony Leon says the public spat between Patricia De Lille and JP Smith suggests an unfortunate division based on personalities and governance in the party.

The Cape Town mayor and her head of safety and security have been placed on 'special leave' by the DA, following public accusations leveled against each other.

De Lille has accused Smith of making malicious and defamatory remarks against her.

The DA's federal executive has set up a special sub-committee to investigate the strained relationship between the two.

Leon says the party's reputation of good governance, sound management and incorruptibility faces the threat of being tarnished.
