Cape Town Mayor Patricia De Lille and Mayco Member JP Smith have been placed on special leave from Democratic Alliance activities in the Cape metro.

Tensions boiled over when Smith questioned the shutting down of the City of Cape Town’s Special Investigating Unit as well as alleged irregularities in renovations done at De Lille’s house.

De Lille is considering legal action against Smith.

I am not sure if that is the accurate word we should be giving people placed on leave for these specific activities.

The word special means better, greater or otherwise different from what is usual, it is a positive description. So when someone is involved with dodgy dealings, they are placed on special leave because they have done something wrong so we need to re look at the word.
