Yahya Ballim is a name you are going to want to remember. Ballim is a 10 year old Durban pupil who has just been crowned the abacus champion of the world! He came top of his category at the Global Association of Japanese Soroban and Mental Arithmetic Competition.
The grade 4 learner obtained the most correct answers to addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication using this ancient Japanese abacus.
Ballim's mother, Zakirah Ballim says she's extremely proud of her son who was competing against over 400 other participants. She says her son used has a tutor and attended classes once a week where he honed his skills.
