Mbalula evading fundamental questions around his Dubai trip - Karima Brown

Police Minister Fikile Mbalula has slammed Eyewitness News (EWN) reporter Barry Bateman for writing a story that he argues isn’t based on facts.

On Monday an EWN exclusive revealed how a sporting goods supplier, Sedgars Sports, allegedly paid for at least R680 000 for the Minister's family trip to Dubai

In an interview with Karima Brown, Mbalula denied the allegations and described the report as is a malicious smear campaign. He says he paid for his own trip.

Brown says however, Mbalula's side of the story does not add up.

It doesn't answer the fundamental question, he couldn't answer one simple question which was if it was a private holiday why didn't he pay for it himself, yes or no...

And if it was a gift of some sort, and clearly it was in his sphere of influence during his time as Sports Minister then of course there is a declaration of interest, he couldn't really say whether or not he had declared it.

His explanation got him into more trouble than he already is.
