Retirement can be a daunting task to plan towards, but it doesn't have to be.

Hilary Henderson is a life coach, specialising in supporting those who are making the transition to retirement.

She has published a handbook titled “7 questions to answer before you turn 65.

Henderson offered advice for older people who have not yet secured enough funds to fully enjoy their retirement.

1. Start an encore career to supplement your retirement income

An encore career is an new, part-time, flexible career that begins after the age of 65.

2. Downscale and save

Down-scaling means moving to smaller accommodation that is less expensive.

3.Make your home work for you

Convert your home into an accommodation outlet by renting rooms to students or registering on Airbnb.

Retirement should be a lovely phase.

Retirement is about more than just financial planning and having enough money, Henderson explains.

However, it important for people to start planning for their retirement as early as possibile.

The earlier you start saving for retirement, the better.
