Why financial planning should be taught at schools

Life Orientation is not doing enough to equip learners with the financial planning tools that will empower them as adults, a wealth coach explains.

While the subject teaches pupils about themselves, society and self-awareness, it is missing the mark on core financial skills needed to grow and protect money.

Expert Samke Mhlongo says financial planning, saving and investing should be part of the skills taught through a subject focusing on entrepreneurship from primary school.

There's room for more financial planning to be included in the curriculum.
