'Staff morale at SABC very low, no salary increases'

CapeTalk/702's Ray White spoke to Hannes du Buisson, President of Broadcasting, Electronic, Media & Allied Workers Union (Bemawu) about the current state of the SABC.

Communications minister Ayanda Dlodlo, as well as the SABC's acting CEO, COO, and CFO appeared before the Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Communications on Tuesday to report on the broadcaster's finances.

The SABC is currently without a board despite Parliament vetting potential candidates weeks ago. President Jacob Zuma is being accused of trying to take over the process of choosing the board.

Du Buisson says the ousted interim board tried their best to stabilise the SABC and get it back on track.

Hannes du Buisson, President of Bemawu

The staff morale is very low at this point. They haven't received their salary increase and it is not their own doing that the SABC finds itself where it is.

Hannes du Buisson, President of Bemawu

The fact that the President is not signing the new board into office is creating more negative publicity for the SABC, making it difficult to attract advertisers and business.
