The City of Cape Town says an administrative error is to blame for the extreme inflation of rental fees for vendors on the Grand Parade.
Vendors were left confused after their monthly rentals went up by astronomical amounts with no explanation from the City.
One trader's monthly rental statement showed that he owed the City of Cape Town R260 721 for the month, instead of his usual monthly R3 400.
Councillor Stuart Diamond says there was an error related to the escalation of backdated leases.
Diamond explains that the City is working on a solution to reverse the charges and establish a fair rate for the traders.
This has highlighted that there are errors that creep in from time to time.— Stuart Diamond, Mayco member for Assets and Facilities Management
