Kloof Street residents living in fear as crime multiplies

A Cape Town man who apparently came to the assistance of two women being mugged on Kloof street was stabbed in the neck on Saturday morning.

According to Marc Truss, chairperson for Cape Town central CPF, the man died on the scene while they tried to get him assistance.

A young man in his 20s was later arrested and will appear in court on Monday morning.

Mark Alliwel works on Kloof Street and his children go to school on the same street. He says they don't feel safe anymore as the crime in the area has increased over the last 6 months.

He recalls the day a young boy pulled a knife on him demanding he hand over his wallet.

I wrote to the Mayor of Cape Town telling her that one day someone will die on Kloof Street and I got a cut and paste response saying the City of Cape Town bull....

Mark Alliwell, Caller

The crime in Kloof street has increased a lot, there are more street kids, more homeless people and there are more car guards. This is where we take our kids to school and nothing seems to be done.
