Sassa says its cards will continue working past expiry date

There has been a lot of uncertainty among social grant beneficiaries who are now living in fear of what will happen when the card expires on 31 December 2017.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has assured beneficiaries of social grants that the matter has been dealt with and resolved by all parties concerned, namely CPS (Cash Paymaster Services) PASA and MasterCard.

Paseka Letsatsi, Head of Communications at South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) says the card has an expiry date because it operates similarly to a bank card.

We've noticed people spreading fake messages on social media networks telling beneficiaries to visit SASSA offices to change their cards.

Letsatsi says this is why department will be embarking on a educational campaign to end panic among beneficiaries.

The official SASSA card issued to social grant beneficiaries will operate without any problem beyond the expiry date of 31 December 2017 printed on it.
