No surprise that Nzimande shown the door in Cabinet reshuffle - analyst

The removal of Blade Nzimande from his position as Higher Education Minister comes as no surprise to political analyst Karima Brown.

Brown explains that President Jacob Zuma's Cabinet reshuffle show that relationships in the tripartite alliance are deteriorating.

Alliance relations are at an all time low.

The SA Communist Party (SACP) and Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) have maintained calls for Zum to step down and refused to have him address their gatherings.

In turn, Zuma has rejected all attempts by alliance leaders to call a political alliance council meeting.

Nzimande, who is also the SACP General Secretary, has reportedly had a strained relationship with the President.

Brown says SACP members in government will have to decide how to respond to the outing of Nzimande.

She advises that SACP members who remain in Cabinet are "at the mercy" of Zuma and will have to strategise on the political future.

Meanwhile, the SACP says Zuma's move "is not a reshuffle but the targeted removal of [Nzimande] as a direct attack on the SACP."

Take a listen to her insightful analysis and predictions on how SACP might respond:
