African National Congress (ANC) treasurer-general Zweli Mkhize has told Eyewitness News (EWN) that he was taken by surprise when President Jacob Zuma made his latest change to Cabinet.
He confirmed Mantashe’s comments that the president did not consult the ANC leadership on the Cabinet reshuffle but merely informed them of the changes.
In his twelfth cabinet reshuffle, Zuma axed South African Communist Party (SACP) general secretary, Blade Nzimande as Higher Education and Training Minister.
EWN reporter Clement Manyathela sat down with Mkhize on Wednesday.
Mkhize has raised concerns of instability and says an urgent meeting is needed between the SACP and the ruling party.
I think the concerns here would really be the frequent number of reshuffles are not in the hands of the ANC leadership...the impression of instability that may arise, and this is a reflection of some of the tensions that may well have been playing themselves out in the public.— Zweli Mkhize, ANC treasurer-general
Ours is to be able to manage what happens thereafter. My feeling is that we need an urgent meeting between the African National Congress and the South African Communist Party.— Zweli Mkhize, ANC treasurer-general
It is important for us to deal with this issue as leadership.— Zweli Mkhize, ANC treasurer-general
