It's reported that well-known Cape Town gang boss Jerome Booysen was the target of the shooting at Cape Town International Airport on Wednesday.
Booysen, also known as "Donkie", was shot and another bystander wounded just after 5am when gunmen opened fire.
Unknown occupants pulled up in a sedan near the departures entrance and opened fire before fleeing the scene, reports EWN's Lauren Isaacs.

More than 20 bullet casings were picked up from the scene, according to police.
Meanwhile, airport officials told staff not to speak to reporters after the shooting.
It's understood that the shooting is the third attempt on Booysen's life this year.
Policing expert Dr Simon Howell explains that the airport shooting could be linked to the shooting at a Stellenbosch nightclub this past weekend.
40-year-old Donovan Jacobs died after he was shot three times at Cubana Lounge in Stellenbosch.
It is believed Jacobs is affiliated with the 28s gang and was the target in the frantic shooting, Dr Howell explains.
As far as I understand the shooting is related to the one that happened in Stellenbosch on Saturday in which Donovan Jacobs was killed. He is an alleged member of the 28s.— Dr Simon Howell, researcher at Africa Policing and Civilian Oversight Forum
