Harrowing details have been shared the families of some of the mentally ill patients who died in the Esidimeni tragedy.
141 psychiatric patients died after the Gauteng Health Department terminated its contract with the Esidimeni group and moved them to unlawful NGOs.
A woman has described to the arbitration hearing how she found her brother’s eyes were missing when she went to see him at the morgue.
Eyewitness News reporter Masego Rahlaga is attending the hearing.
She said that she was told that her brother died on the 2nd of August but was only taken to the morgue on the 8th of August and the family was told about his death the following month.— Masego Rahlaga, EWN reporter
We had one woman who testified, her mother was diagnosed with vascular dementia.... they moved her to the Takalani NGO in Soweto and they [the family] had not known. Her brother asked for his mother, gave the official her name but brought someone else with his mother's name tag on....— Masego Rahlaga, EWN reporter
