Dad left super proud after young violinist (14) wins gold on national stage

14-year-old Gilah Kellner won the First Prize, Gold Medal in the National Youth Music Competition held in Cape Town last week.

The budding violinist also won in the category Strings and Best performance by a string instrumentalist of a work by a Russian composer.

21 contestants between the ages of 14 and 19 were chosen as the finalists in the 33rd National Youth Music Competition which took place at the at the Hugo Lamprechts Music Centre.

Her father, Clive Kellner, explains that she is the youngest to win at the national competition which sees South Africa's brightest young classical musicians.

He says that his daughter started playing violin at eight-years-old and has been committed, disciplined and passionate about music ever since.

It's absolutely tremendous. She's such a star!
