Eskom has terminated the services of it's evidence leader Sebetja Matsaung in the disciplinary hearing of suspended executive Matshela Koko following an altercation between Matsaung and Deputy Financial Mail Editor Sikhonathi Mantshantsha.
In a video shared on social media last Friday, Matsaung is seen threatening Mantshantsha after the disciplinary hearing was adjourned.
Eskom has since released a statement condemning Matsaung's actions: “Eskom condemns Matsaung’s behaviour in the strongest terms possible. We wish to convey our unreserved apologies that this unfortunate incident occurred.”
Mantshantsha spoke to Stephen Grootes on the Breakfast Show to explain the events that led to the incident.
Some journalists, including Chris Yeland approached Mr Motsaung to interview him and he had already been speaking from that podium in quite a loud voice in our direction complaining that I had published personal details.— Sikhonathi Mantshansha,Deputy Editor at Financial Mail
At the same time Advocate Frans Barrie who represents Matshela Koko was busy having a go at one of my colleagues, Kyle Cowan, and shouting at him. I was busy tying to record this when I heard my name being mentioned by Mr Motsaung... so I turned and said sir I am here if you want to complain about my stories talk to me and that is when it went loose from there.— Sikhonathi Mantshansha,Deputy Editor at Financial Mail.
