SABC staff set to strike over zero salary increase

Monday may see the SABC staff going on a nationwide strike. This follows the announcement that they will not be receiving salary increases this year.

Hannes du Buisson, spokesperson at Broadcasting, Electronic, Media and Allied Workers Union (Bemawu) says that have put in a strike notice to the CCMA.

According to Du Buisson, the SABC says it is virtually bankrupted and has made no provisions to pay its staff.

That, of course, has angered staff because all the other service providers do get paid. There are negotiations with them to pay them less and pay them over longer periods of time, yet the staff, who is also a very important service provider to the SABC, are overlooked.
