Groups urged not to racialise nor politicise march against farm attacks

Protesters are gathering ahead of this morning's Genoeg is Genoeg (Enough is Enough) march in various parts of South Africa.

They are protesting against farm attacks and the many farm owners and workers who are killed.

Independent crime researcher and consultant, Dr Johan Burger says people should not try and politicise these attacks saying that both farm workers and farm owners are killed every year.

Burger was responding to groups questioning why workers are being included as they believe it is mostly the farm owners that are being targeted exclusively.

It is frustrating that there are groups trying to racialise and politicise this thing ...

Dr Johan Burger, Independent Crime and Policing Consultant

The reality is that the farming community, everybody included, is under siege and has been under siege for a number of years, the situation is becoming even worse.

Dr Johan Burger, Independent Crime and Policing Consultant

Farms are entities that produce food that you and I go and buy in the shops. They are a very special group of people and this is why these attacks against them need urgent attention.

Dr Johan Burger, Independent Crime and Policing Consultant

Between 500 to 1500 people are expected to gather at Kanonkop, Klapmuts, from 06:00.

At 08:00, participants would drive along the R44 to Green Point Park where a prayer will be held.
