The leaked aspects of the Fees Commission report may fuel more public confusion and concern, says DA MP Belinda Bozzoli.

Bozzoli and the DA have called on President Jacob Zuma to immediately release the long overdue report on the feasibility of free tertiary education.

The City Press reported that the commission led by retired judge Jonathan Heher had found that free higher education is not viable.

According to the leak, the report recommends the scrapping of university registration fees.

It also proposes an income-contingent loan system which would enable students to repay their debt in relation to their salaries after graduation.

This would effectively replace the current National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) programme, but Bozzoli says it remains unclear how this new system would be funded.

It's not clear from the leak how that would be funded.

In order to have a massive loan scheme like that, you will need some capital. We're still very unclear as to how it may work.

Bozzoli has raised red flags with some of the other recommendations proposed in the leaked report.

Meanwhile, there have been renewed protests at some universities, with students demanding the President to release the report.
