4 Ways to Take the Stress out of your Child's School Activities

Let’s face it – being a parent is just a big juggling act. You’re juggling the pressures of work deadlines, appointments, school outings, and the last thing that you want to do is drop the ball.

So, how exactly do you take on the daunting task of managing your child’s school activities whilst still playing an active role in their educational development? We’ve put together a fool-proof rookie guide that will help you attain, and maintain your wits about you.

1. Communication is Key

If it hasn’t sunken in yet – having a child in school has just become your second job and by second job, we mean an endless to-do list. If it isn’t class picture day, it’s a trip to the aquarium but one thing is for certain, all parents know that it’s not long into the new school year before the teachers start sending your to-do list. How on earth do you cope with work, family time and everything school-related?

Here’s a tip: stay on top of everything by keeping the lines of communication between you and the school open so that you don’t miss any of the important up and coming events.

2. Make Connections

Just like you, there are other moms and dads battling with parental guilt all while trying really hard not to miss anything important. Find them, show an interest, and establish a relationship with them. Together, you can keep each other updated on fundraising events or games that your child may have forgotten to mention.

3. Keep a Schedule

If you’re working full-time like most parents, you’ll know that keeping track of everything isn’t exactly easy when your nine-year-old hands you an indemnity form just minutes before school starts. So, to avoid the stress, it’s best to create a schedule of school activities, fundraisers, and after-school activities. This way, you know exactly what’s coming up and you’re able to budget accordingly beforehand.

4. One Less Thing to Worry About

As a parent, we’re pretty sure that you’ve had your fair share of panic-stricken mornings, running around the house trying to scrape together money for school civvies day – just to put yourself through the stress of having to send your kid to school with an envelope of money. Why do we still do this to ourselves? Luckily, now we can take control of adhoc school payments with the new Karri app, powered by Nedbank. It helps parents make quick, safe, and easy payments, even from inside your car in front of the school.
