11 killed in Ladysmith ambush

11 people have been killed in a shooting incident on the N11 in the Matiwaneskop area, in Ladysmith.

A member of the Klip River Taxi Association was travelling on the N11 in the Matiwaneskop area at around 7am on Tuesday morning when a group of armed men ambushed him and four of his security guards.

The vehicle then lost control and crashed into an oncoming vehicle believed to be carrying teachers and pupils.

There is speculation that the incident is related to taxi violence in the area.

Journalist Saith Motheram says four other people have been transported to a nearby hospital.

Two of them were in a serious condition. We are checking with our sources now as to regards whether they are still in a serious condition.

Motheram says there have been several killings in the area in the past two weeks alone.

For us we feel, it actually has exploded at the moment. We have had numerous shooting. Speaking to people from Ladysmith, people are scared for their lives, now at the moment they don't know if its safe to walk out at night.
