Emotional Henri van Breda says 'my family was very close'

Henri van Breda who is accused of killing his parents, older brother, and for attacking his sister in 2015 has been called to give evidence in court.

Van Breda has described his family being “very close”, according to EWN reporter Monique Mortlock.

He said they usually went on holiday together and did various activities together. The Sunday before the attack they had gone shark cage diving....

Monique Mortlock, EWN reporter

Mortlock says when Van Breda was describing the graphic details of the attack, he would pause and at times speak softly. He was repeatedly asked to speak louder, she says.

You could see it was a bit difficult for him speaking about seeing all the blood and his family being attacked by a man apparently wearing a balaclava.

Monique Mortlock, EWN reporter

He said the man was wearing gloves which then explains why there were no other fingerprints in the house than the family and the first respondent on the scene..
