Jordaan prepared to prove innocence in court, say lawyers

South African Football Association (Safa) boss Danny Jordaan is prepared to defend his innocence in court, should Jennifer Ferguson lay criminal charges.

This is according to a statement released by his legal team on Wednesday, in which Jordaan denies Ferguson's claims that he raped her in Port Elizabeth in 1997.

Jordaan's lawyers say the Safa boss will not be suing the former ANC MP for defamation, reports EWN's Mia Lindeque.

Jordaan has refused to engage any further in the public domain.

He says he took more than two weeks to respond to the rape allegations out of "empathy with victims of gender-based violence".

Meanwhile, Ferguson says she's not surprised by Jordaan's statement and will consider the next step with her legal team.
