Suspect nabbed in Marikana killing is nephew of an ANC leader - Paul O'Sullivan

Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) union members in the platinum belt have told Eyewitness News that they are leaving that area, citing killings there are linked to the union's resistance to leadership changes.

Four Marikana miners told EyeWitness News that several people have been killed for demanding that Amcu President Joseph Mathunjwa appoint a deputy and raising allegations of corruption.

Stand-in Midday Report host, Ray White spoke to Paul O'Sullivan, a forensic consultant who has been asked by Amcu to investigate the killings.

O'Sullivan says it is still too early to discuss the investigations, as there is a lot of information being processed, but can say they have identified some suspects. He adds that there have been private investigators already on the ground.

We have also set up a toll-free line (0800 118 118) where anybody with any information can call that number.

There is also a R100 000 reward being issued for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone behind the killings.

Paul O'Sullivan, Forensic Consultant

We are quite certain at this stage that there is a hidden hand which appears to be directing killings of Amcu leaders in the platinum belt.

Paul O'Sullivan, Forensic Consultant

We have identified certain police officials who seem to involved and if you look at the police arrested last week, he is the nephew of a prominent African National Congress (ANC) leader says O'Sullivan.

He adds that late last week, these killings were reported to the police to investigate the killings.
